My journey to mental healthcare Prior to becoming a mental health counselor, I was a religious education teacher at my church. Recognizing the need to address all the mental health related challenges with the individuals I worked with, I decided to transition to becoming a mental health provider after 11 years of teaching. From the time I decided to become a MH counselor to becoming one, I began to advocate for mental health services within my church community for the young generation as well as create awareness of it within my community.
