Getting to know Kristen Epperson
Hello, I'm Kristen, a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervision designation (LISW-S) for the states of Ohio and Michigan. With 23 years of experience as a School Social Worker and various roles in private practice, I've had the privilege of working with young children, teens, and adults. My focus areas include attention issues, victims of abuse, trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, and depressive disorders. My journey has taken me through diverse settings, including an in-patient dual diagnosis facility, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, online counseling, and in-person therapy positions.
My therapeutic approach is deeply influenced by Carl Rogers, emphasizing the importance of building a trusting relationship with my clients. I believe that through mutual trust, we can work together to facilitate healing and progress. I've studied Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other techniques, as well as solution-focused therapy. I also prioritize psychoeducation, helping clients understand how their brain works and how their diagnosed disorder affects them. My goal is to empower you with the knowledge and tools to recover and heal.
When you work with me, it will feel like talking to an old friend rather than a traditional therapy session. I strive to create a safe, caring environment where you feel comfortable, accepted, and understood without judgment.
On a personal note, I have four beautiful children and two grandchildren, and a dog that drives me crazy but whom I love to pieces!
