Kristi Abbott, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience supporting adults through a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, and stress. I earned my BA in Psychology from UC Davis and my Master of Social Work from San Diego State University. I am also trained in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and provide integration-focused care to support lasting healing from those experiences. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental. I believe the foundation of effective therapy is a strong therapeutic relationship, where you feel safe, understood, and supported. I meet clients where they are and tailor treatment using an integrative approach that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). I work from a developmental perspective, recognizing how early experiences, relationships, and life transitions shape patterns over time. At the same time, I believe growth and change are always possible. Together, we will explore your experiences, build insight, and develop healthier ways of coping and relating to yourself and others.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients can expect a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where they feel heard and understood. I prioritize building a strong therapeutic relationship and will meet you where you are, moving at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I take a collaborative approach, meaning we will work together to identify your goals and tailor treatment to your unique needs. My style is both compassionate and practical—I aim to help you gain insight while also equipping you with tools you can use in your daily life. I draw from evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and IFS, and integrate these in a way that fits you as an individual. If you are interested in or have experience with psychedelic-assisted therapy, I also offer integration support to help you process and make meaning of those experiences. Overall, my goal is to create a space where you feel safe to explore, grow, and make meaningful, lasting changes.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with an initial session focused on understanding your concerns, history, and goals for therapy. This is also an opportunity for us to get a sense of fit and begin building a strong therapeutic relationship. From there, we collaboratively develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs. Ongoing sessions typically involve a balance of exploring underlying patterns and experiences while also building practical skills to help you manage current challenges. I integrate evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and IFS, depending on what is most helpful for you. Throughout the process, I check in regularly on your progress and adjust our focus as needed. If relevant, I also provide integration support for psychedelic-assisted therapy experiences. My overall approach is flexible, collaborative, and focused on helping you create meaningful, sustainable change.
