Getting to know Kristy Smith Johnson

I am Kristy Smith Johnson, and my passion is to help others in their time of need. It is very fulfilling when I see others grow, learn, and build the confidence they need to overcome personal obstacles. I started providing therapy services in 2011 and have been working in the mental health field ever since. I specialize in treating anxiety, OCD, depression, grief, and trauma. I earned my Master's in Clinical Psychology from Marshall University, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support my clients effectively. I moved from West Virginia to North Carolina in 2015 and have really loved living here. The beauty of this state and the friendly people I have met along the way have made NC a happy home for me. I have a husband and recently became a mother to my son in 2022. I love spending time with my family and fur babies-a Labrador Retriever and our three cats. Special interests include hiking, spending time in nature, traveling, taking pictures, and exploring new places. I also enjoy getting creative when time allows by painting and making crafts such as wreaths and suncatchers.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I would like for my future client to know that I like to create a safe, non-judgmental environment for them to share and express their true selves in order to foster an atmosphere of self-growth. All therapy goals are discussed and created together, and my therapy style incorporates many different modalities specific to your own personal needs. Reach out today and make an appointment with me. I have immediate availability.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session together will be our intake where I review some of the paperwork you have filled out prior to our first session. We will discuss your main presenting issues and begin to formulate the goals you would like to attain during therapy. Together, we can discuss how these goals can be reached and how often we will need to meet to make this a priority. Typically, we will start out meeting once per week but as goals are being met and you are satisfied with your progress, we will discuss whether you are ready to discontinue our sessions or whether we need to see each other biweekly or monthly.
