Psychotherapist

Hello. My name is LaShara. I believe that we have basic needs: personal power, freedom, fun, survival, and secure connections, from a choice-theory perspective. Sometimes these needs are not met, or we have difficulty attending to them. I think it is important to reflect on what matters in your life and what you consider your responsibility to achieve a flourishing life. Thoughts, insecurities, and behaviors can sometimes be learned, and they may not serve us well. In those instances, I believe humans are capable of learning new ways of being. There is power and clarity in recognizing choices, and autonomy in deciding how to engage with circumstances through a collaborative process. I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling and Rehabilitation from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Master’s in Biblical Studies from Colorado Christian University, which inform my holistic approach to care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I draw from several frameworks. I provide tools and resources pertaining to attachment theory, distress tolerance, mindfulness skills, and committed action. I understand that life presents us with challenges, and sometimes we need subtle techniques to help our public selves. Likewise, we can determine practices and and resources to accommodate our private selves. The therapeutic alliance can foster profound collaboration to strengthen affect regulation, body-awareness, and patience to alleviate the impact of symptoms and move toward value-driven actions. We can discuss what you are thinking. We can notice how our relational patterns show up in our daily interactions. Then, we can adjust how to explore options for how to respond in your environmental and relational contexts.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
