Getting to know Larissa McCain

My name is Larissa McCain, LMFT, PMH-C. I believe therapy is a collaborative experience between client and therapist, creating a safe space to exhale the negative and make room for positive change. I earned my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego. While working with clients from diverse backgrounds, I specialize in perinatal and maternal mental health, parenthood, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. My approach I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Supportive Therapy, and Client-Centered Therapy. My focus I have extensive training and experience with perinatal mental health issues, pregnancy and infertility, miscarriage and stillbirth, adjustment to parenthood, identity shifts, and working parents. I also support clients dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma. My communication style I offer clients a safe, nonjudgmental space where they don't have to filter or censor what they say. They don't even have to know exactly what they want to express-we'll make sense of it together. While I bring clinical experience, I view my clients as the experts on their own lives, fostering a strong collaborative environment. My journey to mental healthcare I've known I wanted to be a therapist since high school when I met an amazing school counselor. I've been inspired to learn from others and humbled to be part of clients' journeys through difficult times. I believe everyone deserves a space focused solely on themselves and their mental health. My goals for you I believe goals look different for everyone; there is no “one size fits all.” Goals should be manageable and sustainable within each person's lifestyle. My first session with you Our first session is a “get to know you” meeting where we begin building our therapeutic relationship. We'll cover background information, safety concerns, your main goals, and address any questions you may have.
