GA
Hi there, I'm Larry! Hello. I am Larry Detyon, LPC. I have been a licensed professional counselor since 1994 and have worked in the mental health field for more than 40 years. I was also a full-time associate professor for several years, teaching subjects related to psychology, human services, and substance abuse counseling. I provide individual and couples therapy addressing a wide range of mental health challenges. This often includes mood disorders (major/persistent depression and bipolar), anxiety, trauma, grief, and substance abuse disorders. Active listening, therapeutic rapport, compassion, and effective guidance are essential counselor qualities that help me support clients in achieving their desired outcomes. My approach I use active listening to gather as much information as possible to understand the client's perspective and quickly establish therapeutic rapport. I tailor my counseling approach based on the client's communication style regarding thoughts and feelings. I emphasize CBT, DBT, Psychodynamic, and Humanistic therapies. My focus I work with clients experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, problematic relationships, substance abuse (alcohol and drugs), and parent-child disturbances. My communication style I communicate respectfully, combining active listening with guidance and fostering a collaborative atmosphere to achieve desired outcomes. Communication is a two-way process, with the amount of counselor input determined by the situation and the client’s needs. My journey to mental healthcare My background includes work as a military policeman and various mental health positions across multiple states. My goals for you Goal setting happens when the client provides input and states their desired outcomes or changes. Together, the therapist and client identify helpful and healthy choices. Depending on needs, there may be short-term and long-term goals.
