Laura Curry, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Laura Curry, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master's in Counseling Psychology and a Bachelor's degree from National University. I am passionate about helping others, providing support, and advocating for mental health because your mental health truly matters! My approach I am certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I teach my clients skills to build their own toolkit and help them navigate their mental health journey to reach the place they are striving to be. It's the client's session, and I believe it's important to allow clients the space and time they need during our work together. While we have treatment goals, if other situations arise, we discuss those challenges as well. My focus I bring diverse experience from working in a residential substance use program, Methadone clinic, crisis residential program, community-based therapy, school therapy, county services for severe mental illness, and psychiatric health facilities. I have worked with children, teens, and adults on a variety of issues including bullying, anxiety, depression, substance use, trauma, mood disorders, and many others. My communication style I strive to meet my clients where they are and address their needs within their comfort zone to promote growth and increase insight into their own lives. To achieve this, I am soft but firm-assertive and direct in my communication while expressing myself in a way that invites openness to feedback. I encourage clients to advocate for themselves because they are the best advocates and authors of their own stories. They are the experts of their lives. My journey to mental healthcare I have been married for 19 years and have two children. A family history of substance use, mental health challenges, and trauma inspired me to learn more to better understand my own family. This grew into a passion to understand the people around me-family, friends, colleagues, and peers.
