“as a fellow therapist, i had a lot of things i was looking for when it came to picking my own therapist. layne checked all of those boxes, and our sessions continue to reinforce that i made the right choice. she is warm, inviting and humorous but also knows when/how to challenge my thinking in a direct but empowering way. staying focused on EMDR as her main treatment modality has also helped me get the most out of our sessions with deeper processing that provides long-lasting results.”

Getting to know Layne Mitchell

Please read my profile carefully before scheduling an appointment. I am only accepting EMDR client. If you are interest in EMDR, please book ANY appointment slot. This will allow you to move through the online process but will not be your first appointment. Greetings! I'm so glad that this website has led you to this profile so I can say CONGRATS on taking the first step towards mental health counseling. I am a LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in the Commonwealth of Virginia trained in EMDR. I have been in this field for 10 years. I have provided therapy in a variety of settings that include community health centers, juvenile detentions, county jail, and private practice, and currently work as a full-time crisis clinician for a community service board. Through these settings, I have had the opportunity to treat many conditions like ADHD, ODD, many personality disorders, PTSD, Major Depression Disorder, Anxiety, Bipolar and addiction. I believe that everyone has a story and believe that everyone has the right to tell that story, their worries, desires, and goals in a supportive, unbiased environment. I am always honored when a client chooses me to be the therapist to guide and support them through their mental health journey. The best part about mental health concerns/addiction is that recovery exists. You are the driver to that recovery and you are at the beginning of that road. I can help you identify barriers and help you explore coping skills and other resources to be successful in mental health recovery or your goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I strongly believe in client- driven therapy. Due to that you will be in the driver seat during your sessions. However I use a variety of tools to help you with that drive. I utilize homework, worksheet, literature, and workbooks to help as a "map" to help on your road to your goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

I came to Layne looking for EMDR therapy to work through some trauma and help reduce nightmares. My meetings with Layne were fantastic. She is incredibly knowledgeable, unbiased, and straightforward with her approach. I greatly enjoyed my time working with her and would highly recommend her for EMDR therapy.
Before meeting with Layne, I will say that she is not typically the type of therapist I would normally seek out. Little did I know that she is the therapist I needed! Layne is an experienced therapist who gives 110% to her clients and uses her knowledge base to assess what is best for each one individually. Through Layne's direct and authentic disposition, I have healed parts of myself that I didn't know needed to be healed before and have been able to view my life from a brand new perspective. I have already had so much growth with Layne in my short time with her, and am excited to see where things go from here. Thank you, Layne!
