Getting to know Leanne Parker

Leanne is passionate about holistic care for clients, including mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. She believes in empowering others to achieve their goals and highlights the importance of building self-efficacy. Leanne uses a variety of therapeutic modalities in her practice. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all experience, which means the therapeutic approach should not be either. Leanne is a licensed master social worker (LMSW) currently working toward her license in clinical social work (LCSW). She has worked in public education as an Emotional Behavior Support Specialist in the special education setting. Leanne has worked with a wide array of clients, including clients with emotional disabilities, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and other health impairments. She is experienced in crisis intervention, behavior intervention and modification, social-emotional skills development, and goal setting. She is experienced with both individual and group settings. Leanne is originally from New Mexico, born and raised. She migrated to Texas for college in 2016 to attend Abilene Christian University. There, she earned her bachelor’s of science in social work with a minor in counseling and therapy, and went on for an additional year to earn her master’s of science in social work. For her undergraduate field practicum experience, Leanne worked as an intern at the mental health clinic at Dyess Air Force Base. During her graduate field practicum experience, she worked as a school social work intern for Abilene ISD. Leanne’s master’s thesis won the Outstanding Thesis of the Year award for her research in “Trauma Related to the COVID-19 Pandemic in Educators and Students.” During her time in college, she met her now husband, Christian, and has been in Texas ever since.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am equipped to help clients who find themselves struggling with their current life circumstances, whether that is a traumatic event, coping with a disability for themselves or family, or having difficulty processing intrapersonal thoughts. I am passionate about holistic care for clients, including mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I believe in empowering others to achieve their goals and highlighting the importance of building self-efficacy. I primarily work with children and teens, but have experience working with all ages. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities in my practice; therapy is not a one-size-fits-all experience, which means the therapeutic approach should not be either!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me starts with an intake appointment where I will get to know you through a series of questions, go over important information such as scheduling and costs, and most importantly, develop and understand what my client's goals are for therapy. I offer in-person and teletherapy for children, teens, adults, families, or groups. I use a combination of modalities to tailor treatment to the client or family being served. I utilize CBT primarily, while also incorporating techniques from DBT, play therapy, motivational interviewing, and family systems theory.
