Getting to know Leticia Hernandez

I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner at Hope Matters Institute. My work as a therapist is centered on helping clients cultivate a compassionate understanding of themselves—one that promotes emotional balance, resilience, and authentic connection. I believe therapy is a space where healing begins through curiosity, courage, and human connection. My goal is to support individuals in exploring the patterns, emotions, and beliefs that shape their inner world, so they can live with greater clarity, confidence, and self-trust. Clients often describe my style as warm, patient, and collaborative. I create a safe environment that balances empathy with gentle, goal-oriented guidance, allowing clients to move toward change at a pace that feels manageable and respectful. My approach integrates evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, alongside mindfulness and somatic practices that help clients reconnect with their bodies and emotions. I believe that people are inherently wired for connection, and that true healing occurs in the context of authentic, supportive relationships. Whether you’re seeking relief from anxiety, working through trauma, navigating grief or life transitions, or wanting to strengthen relationships, my focus is on helping you build a deeper sense of self-awareness, emotional balance, and compassion for your own experience.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I approach therapy as a collaborative process—one built on trust, respect, and genuine care. From our first session, my priority is to create a safe, judgment-free environment where you feel fully seen and heard. I understand that beginning therapy can feel vulnerable, and I strive to meet you with warmth, curiosity, and patience as we establish our working relationship. Clients can expect a balance of reflection and structure in our sessions. I often incorporate mindfulness and “parts work” to help you better understand your internal experiences, while also setting clear goals to guide our progress. I encourage open communication—if something isn’t working or feels unclear, we’ll explore it together. Therapy with me is not about rushing change; it’s about developing the self-awareness and confidence needed to navigate life’s challenges with strength and grace. I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families, and I am committed to creating an inclusive and affirming space for people of all backgrounds, including LGBTQIA+ individuals, people of color, and immigrant or refugee populations. Our work together will always be grounded in cultural sensitivity, respect for your values, and an understanding of how your personal and cultural context shapes your lived experience.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our initial sessions, I take time to understand your unique history, current challenges, and hopes for therapy. We’ll explore what has brought you to this point and identify specific goals for our work together. I conduct a thorough assessment and collaborate with you to develop an individualized treatment plan that reflects your needs, preferences, and readiness for change. As therapy progresses, we move between exploration and action. Together, we’ll uncover patterns that may be keeping you stuck, build emotional awareness, and introduce evidence-based tools to support healing and growth. I use an integrative, trauma-informed approach that draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Each session is guided by your goals and pace. Some weeks may focus on processing emotions or experiences, while others emphasize learning new coping skills, practicing mindfulness, or exploring relationships and attachment patterns. Periodically, we’ll review your progress to ensure therapy remains aligned with your evolving needs. Throughout the process, my role is to provide a steady, compassionate presence while gently challenging you toward deeper insight and sustainable change. My hope is that you leave therapy with a greater sense of emotional clarity, resilience, and self-compassion—equipped with the tools and inner resources to navigate life with confidence and authenticity.
