Getting to know Lionel Latouche

I support clients working through a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, and life and relationship stress. What should a new client know about working with you?

As a psychotherapist, I utilize various modalities to guide clients towards their goals. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, commonly known as CBT, is a more popular method, as it is highly effective in helping clients identify and examine the through-line between their thoughts, feelings and the way they show up in the world. I also utilize Psychodynamic, Psychoanalytic, Trauma-Informed and Attachment approaches to help clients traverse through life events and circumstances that have greatly impacted them. I take great pleasure in helping couples voyage through conflict and challenges within their relationship, developing and enhancing effective styles of verbal and non-verbal communication within their relationships. I also assist families in analyzing and strengthening interpersonal dynamics and interactions. I work with clients from all walks of life with sensitivity and cultural competence and humility. I have extensive experience with African-American, Caribbean and Latinx clientele, as well as faith/spirituality-centered counseling. No matter what you are journeying through, I believe that we can work together to help you meet your needs and reach your goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I strive to make sessions comfortable and safe for all clients that I walk alongside. In our first session, we'll work to establish a sense of connection and mutual understanding about our therapeutic relationship. Then, we'll talk through the issues that bring you to therapy. We'll develop clear, reachable goals at the end of that session, using those goals to help guide our therapeutic journey together. In our later sessions, we'll check in, elevating any significant or remarkable events that require attention and processing. If there are no significant events, we'll refer back to your presenting challenges and desired goals, peeling away the layers to get to the root of the issues your facing. At the end of our session, we will summarize the content and takeaways of our session and review any accompanying homework assignments that will need to be done before our next session. It's important to remember that there is always room to address emerging needs or challenges during the therapeutic journey. Your therapeutic sessions and journey are designed with you and for you.
