I'm so glad you're considering doing therapy. I know it takes courage, but I want you to know I'll be taking this unique journey with you. Using loving curiosity and gentleness toward yourself, we'll listen to the parts of you that need attention. The part of you that is seeking help is often the same part that knows the path to healing. My approach I encourage a deep listening approach in therapy. Sometimes we hear our own answers by listening to ourselves process out loud. Or, our answers can come through more indirect methods, such as our dreams or waking reveries, or through dialoguing with our pain/symptoms to hear what is needed. My focus I believe we all have the knowledge and wisdom to heal ourselves. But that wisdom is often buried deep within us under layers of trauma or neglect, and needs a supportive presence to help us find and nurture it. With couples, I encourage compassionate listening to the relationship itself--it's pain, it's fear, and it's yearning without blame. My communication style We will start by respectfully hearing what brings you to therapy. In this process, I will use gentle questioning and curiosity, as well as "to the point" engagement. My journey to mental healthcare I have always taken to heart the idea that a therapist must do their own work in order to be an effective guide. Otherwise, how could I possibly know the landscape and be able to offer a map? I have engaged in a 20-year process of my own depth work, as well as an ongoing process of case consultation. My goals for you By listening carefully together to what you most want to change, we will begin to see the path out of suffering. One of the hardest things about this is realizing we are the only ones we can truly change. When we take this power, we enter our relationships in a different way and create different patterns. Along the way, we will refine and evolve.
