Hi there, I'm Dr. Lisa! Dr. Lisa Karla, EdD, LPC. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s in Professional Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. I specialize in Christian counseling for those struggling in marriage, substance and alcohol abuse, spirituality, and general mental health. My approach My approach to psychotherapy is grounded in a Biblical worldview. Much of my work is done through a psychodynamic model in which the client engages on a path of learning the whys, hows, wheres, and whens related to where they find themselves as they present to therapy. My focus Many of my clients struggle with marital discord, stress and anxiety, depression, and grief. I also see clients for career planning and education advisement. One of my favorite groups of clients is seniors! My communication style Clients are listened to with a non-judgmental ear. They are encouraged to clearly define their goals and prepare to do the work necessary to achieve success. Clients are supported and provided with opportunities to grow, gain insight, and become educated as they navigate their therapeutic journey. My journey to therapy Working in the financial industry with a coworker began my journey to becoming a therapist. Though friends and family encouraged me to enter behavioral health, it wasn’t until a coworker faced a personal crisis she couldn’t process that I truly considered it. She was ready to make a permanent decision for a temporary dilemma. She shared her situation, and I asked her questions allowing her to gain insight. The next day she returned to work and said, “You saved my [25-yr] marriage. You’re in the wrong business. You should be a therapist.” I was shocked because she didn’t know many had said this for years. I didn’t know her well outside of work. I then began to pursue becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. The most thrilling aspect of this work is when people gain insight into themselves and their issues.
