Dr. Lisa Thayer, PhD

Psychotherapist
NJ
Your well-being is important to me. I am passionate about this work because I believe in the healing we all deserve. Uncomfortable emotions sound the alarm to what distresses us and hark back to the feeling memories related to the emotional hurt we experience right now. In therapy, we can explore your attachment style and how you experience emotional disconnection when it occurs in your relationships today. Emotional connection is vital to our sense of safety in the world, and I want to help you validate the defenses you learned and earned to survive and cope. I work with couples and individuals experiencing emotional distress. I aim to validate your needs to communicate your distress, ensuring that your feelings matter and are understood. From there, we can cultivate the compassion and care you have for yourself and others, helping you find the peace and happiness you deserve to survive and thrive. I follow a stepwise process, objectively noticing and intervening where it matters most. Together, we collaborate to acknowledge, aim to understand, and validate the reasons for protest or withdrawal when they occur. Therapy is a soothing process that fosters a growth mindset. When we slow down to experience your authentic core feelings in session, I work to provide the safety you deserve so a secure attachment connection can happen. I care for individuals, couples, and families. I help my clients develop their own personal map of self-protective relationship reactions that challenge or derail risk-taking for authentic connection and self-actualization. As your therapist, I want to be a helper and guide you to know and share your authentic self in the ways you desire. We all need and want nurture, care, and protection, and when we take care of important feeling moments, life almost magically and organically takes care of us. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University, which informs my approach and commitment to your healing journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I follow stepwise processes as a trauma specialist. I objectively notice and intervene where it matters most. Together we collaborate to acknowledge, aim and validate the reasons for protest or withdrawal when that occurs. Therapy is a soothing and growth mindset process when we slow down to experience your authentic core feelings and in session, we will work together to make that happen. I care for individuals, couples and families. I help my clients to complete and own their own personal map of self-protective moves that may be challenging risk taking for authentic self-actualization. More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
