Lisa Whitmore, Licensed Clinical Social Worker I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) since 2019, providing counseling to California clients via telehealth. I focus on older adults, families of older adults, and immigrants to the United States. I work collaboratively with clients to reach a mutual understanding of stressors, using cultural competence and eclectic professional expertise to support you in the challenges you are facing. My approach is culturally sensitive and client-centered, tailored to your goals and needs. I provide a respectful space for you to express your thoughts, feelings, and needs. Some approaches available include increasing self-awareness of thoughts and understanding how they affect mood. We may set goals to address external challenges or explore and work to overcome barriers to a healthier or more peaceful life aligned with your values. My background makes me a good fit for older adults, family caregivers, immigrants (clients from other cultures), and clients from academia and high tech. I am especially interested in making therapy accessible to diverse clientele. My communication style is intentional and clear. I listen carefully and fully, speak slowly and straightforwardly, and paraphrase for clarity. I have been successful communicating with non-native speakers and older adults. My prior background in academia and technology also allows me to communicate well with clients from those fields. My journey to mental healthcare began as a friendly visitor to older adults, which inspired me to complete a Master of Social Work degree at San José State University and obtain my LCSW license. I was interested in people’s experiences of loneliness and how we make meaning in our lives. I have provided case management to older adults and clinical supervision to other social workers. Before turning to social work, I earned a PhD in German Studies and Humanities from Stanford University.
