“Logan is honestly the most genuine and authentic therapist. I started seeing him based on my friend’s recommendation after a horrible experience with another therapist (so invalidating). I was emotionally exhausted and feeling hopeless, but Logan was calm and patient and totally present, which made me feel safe enough to give it a chance. I’m glad I did, because it’s a year later and my life is completely different. It’s hard to even relate to that version of myself, I’ve learned and grown so much through our sessions. I highly recommend him to anyone who’s looking for a compassionate, intuitive therapist.”

“I’ve been working with Logan for several years (before he started The Arete Institute). I had worked with other therapists before him, but they mainly just listened and repeated what I said to them. Logan has helped me understand how my past contributed to who I am today, how I show up in the world and with other people, and what I need and want in my life and relationships. He genuinely cares about his patients and most important to me, he’s authentic in our interactions and honest, even when it’s hard to hear. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to understand themselves more clearly and live with greater intention.”

Getting to know Logan Rhys

Logan Rhys is a licensed psychotherapist who works with adults, couples, poly partners, families, and groups; in-person in Los Angeles and online throughout California. He specializes in anxiety, depression, relational trauma, identity development, relationships, ADHD, LGBTQIA+ concerns, and self-esteem. His collaborative, affirming, trauma-informed approach helps clients build insight, emotional resilience, and a stronger sense of self. What was your path to becoming a mental health provider? My path to becoming a therapist grew out of a deep interest in human behavior, identity, relationships, and the ways people adapt to pain, change, and loss. Before entering clinical work, I studied movement, nutrition, and wellness, which deepened my appreciation for the connection between mind and body. I have worked across outpatient, inpatient, hospital, research, and assessment settings, and these experiences have brought both depth and range to my clinical perspective while strengthening my integrative approach. My work is grounded in psychodynamic, attachment-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive perspectives, with a focus on helping clients build insight, emotional resilience, and a stronger sense of self. I am also an EMDR practitioner.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that many of the struggles people carry take shape in relationships and environments that have felt disruptive, invalidating, or unsafe. Because of this, I am intentional about creating a space where clients feel accepted, respected, and empowered. I take time to understand each person’s history, the meaning they have made of their experiences, and the kind of growth they want moving forward. I help clients build insight, strengthen emotional resilience, and make changes that feel more aligned with their values, identity, and sense of self. I work especially well with queer, trans, and queer-allied clients, navigating trauma, ADHD, relationship concerns, and life transitions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Working with me is an active, thoughtful, and collaborative process. I do not believe therapy should feel like a place where you simply describe your pain week after week without gaining language, insight, direction, or meaningful movement. My goal is to help you understand yourself more clearly, recognize the patterns that keep you feeling stuck, and develop the emotional capacity to make different choices in your life and relationships. It is always my intention to bring warmth, curiosity, honesty, and clinical depth into the room. I listen closely and engage fully to understand your personal experience. I also help you notice what may be difficult to see on your own. Therapy will feel validating and grounding. At times, it will also feel uncomfortable, as I gently challenge you to look deeply, and perhaps more honestly, at your needs, fears, defenses, desires, and responsibilities. I believe meaningful change happens when clients feel deeply respected, supported, encouraged, and empowered to grow. My work is best suited for clients who want more than symptom relief. I work well with people who are seeking greater self-understanding, stronger relationships, emotional resilience, and a more authentic way of living.
