Psychotherapist
VA
Hello, my name is Lorena I. Gonzalez! I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor and a licensed clinical addictions specialist. I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. I use an eclectic, holistic, person-centered approach to therapy to treat the whole person and create balance, health, and growth in all areas of life. My approach My therapy is empathically driven, emphasizing a safe, comfortable space for clients to open their minds and hearts to change and healthier living. I believe in meeting each client where they are and walking alongside them to guide their healing. The main theoretical approaches I use include cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive processing therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, existential/experiential therapy, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. My focus I have a long history in mental health and addictions since 2005, starting with male juvenile offenders. I am comfortable treating a wide variety of mental health and addiction concerns, including forensic populations, marginalized and impoverished groups, undocumented immigrants, and persons with personality disorders. I enjoy working with trauma clients, grief and complicated grief, and those struggling with stress, anger, anxiety disorders, depression, and addiction. My communication style Working with me is a tranquil and mind-opening experience. I am certified in guided meditation and am pursuing a 500-hour yoga certification. These have helped me develop a calm, compassionate, and genuine understanding of how stress and emotional concerns affect human balance and wholeness. I walk alongside clients to show that therapy is not a race, and I am not in a hurry. I am a guide in the dark, teaching clients how to help themselves and improve their lives.
