“Lori is amazing, and this questionnaire is not amazing. Building therapeutic rapport takes time and it is not healthy for therapy patients to be asked to reflect in such simple terms on a complex therapy process via this very superficial survey. I find this borderline unethical and at the very least, terrible for rapport.”

Getting to know Lori Pontious

You may have been feeling as though you've been given life without an instruction manual. Relationships might be challenging for you, and in comparing yourself to others, you feel like something is missing-something that might explain how you end up with the "same person" over and over: the disrespectful, distant, controlling, or dismissive partner that the previously ideal one became after a while. This is a pattern that can occur with Complex PTSD, a common experience among many of the clients I work with, which can be addressed through psychoeducation and trauma therapy. You may also have other symptoms you think are simply "just how I am," such as dissociation, low mood or depression, anxiety, and hypervigilance about your own social behaviors-constantly overthinking, regretting, and shaming yourself for not doing or saying "the right thing." C-PTSD can co-occur with other disorders as well. The good news is, you can change. A trauma-informed therapist is a great first step on that journey. I hold a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Fresno, and I am committed to providing compassionate, trauma-informed care to support your healing and growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I always want to explore what's going on with a client - symptoms, concerns and past experiences in therapy, what worked, what didn't. Coming up with a general plan for addressing symptoms comes next.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
