Lyouni Khalifeh, MA

Psychotherapist
418 77th St, Brooklyn, NY
I’m a Mental Health Counselor (MHC-LP) who provides trauma-informed therapy for adults experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, low self-esteem, and the lasting impact of difficult or painful experiences. Sometimes you know something in your life isn’t working, but you’re not quite sure why. You may notice yourself repeating the same relationship patterns, overthinking, struggling with anxiety, or reacting to situations in ways you don’t fully understand. Therapy can be a place to slow down, make sense of those patterns, and begin changing them. My approach is warm, collaborative, and curious. I draw from trauma-informed therapy, psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Brainspotting. Together, we may explore current concerns as well as how past experiences, relationships, family dynamics, attachment patterns, and cultural influences continue to affect how you see yourself and relate to others. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, process what you’ve been carrying, and create healthier patterns that support the life and relationships you want.

Getting to know Lyouni Khalifeh

What should a new client know about working with you?

You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. You may know exactly what you want to work on, or you may simply know that you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or tired of repeating the same patterns. My therapy style is supportive, collaborative, and insight-oriented. I’ll listen closely, ask questions, help you make connections, and gently bring attention to patterns that may be difficult to recognize on your own. We’ll look not only at what is happening in your life now, but also at what may be underneath it. I especially enjoy working with adults who want to better understand their relationships, emotions, attachment patterns, self-esteem, and the ways past experiences may still be affecting them today. When appropriate, I may also incorporate Brainspotting to support deeper emotional and trauma processing. Therapy will always move at a pace that feels manageable, and we’ll work together to determine what feels most helpful for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first few sessions are focused on getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy. We’ll talk about what you’re experiencing now, important relationships and life experiences, patterns you’ve noticed, and what you would like to change. As therapy continues, we’ll begin looking more closely at the connections between your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and experiences. Depending on your needs, we may work on anxiety or depression, relationship patterns, self-esteem, life transitions, trauma, attachment concerns, or difficult experiences from the past that continue to affect you today. I use a combination of trauma-informed therapy, psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Brainspotting. Some sessions may focus on what happened during your week, while others may involve deeper emotional processing and exploring long-standing patterns. We’ll regularly check in on your goals and what feels helpful so that therapy continues to meet your needs as you grow and things change.
