Getting to know Mahsa Mafee (Emily)

My name is Dr. Mahsa Mafee, and I also go by Emily. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with a doctorate degree. I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. For the past ten years, I have worked with a wide range of client populations. I view therapy as a collaborative and multifaceted journey. Therapy can be painful but also a rewarding experience. At times, it may even be the ultimate path that brings a sense of transformation, healing, and enlightenment. I am bilingual, fluent in both English and Farsi, and can conduct therapy in both languages. I am also an immigrant who moved to the U.S. at a young age. This has given me the advantage of being exposed to two different cultures and has helped shape my overall outlook and perspective on the world. It has made me a stronger person and definitely a better psychotherapist in the way that I understand and conceptualize diversity and how I relate and connect to people from different backgrounds.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe everybody is unique and has a story to tell. My biggest strength is my openness to hear those stories and my ability to provide a safe space for clients to be seen and heard without feeling judged. I believe active listening and empathy are key to making emotional connection with people which leads to a trusting bond where clients can express their emotions in a raw fashion. Although skills and knowledge of the therapist are important, I genuinely believe clients are also instrumental in this process; Often times, we have the answers but don't have the tools to access those answers; I can be the guide that provides the insight that provides a better understanding of oneself, so one can make conscious, autonomous choices, and eventually find healing and contentment;

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
