Psychotherapist
FL
Hi there, I'm Mala! My name is Mala Williams-Lawrence, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over two decades of experience in mental health. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Stony Brook University and my Bachelor’s from Binghamton University. I have a passion for supporting individuals to be and express the best of themselves. I let my clients know their session is their space to express themselves without judgment. I take a Person-Centered approach, empowering clients. My approach I believe therapy works as long as clients are willing to do the work. Therapy requires commitment and participation, starting with developing awareness. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, Behavior Modification/Management, and Mindfulness/Meditation, among other interventions. My focus I work with motivated teens, young adults, adults, families, couples, and those seeking a spiritual perspective. I work with diverse cultures, which is important for understanding context. My communication style It's important for clients to feel safe to express themselves without judgment and to be heard. My approach is supportive, empowering, and sometimes direct. I believe therapy is interactive and requires client participation. I’m receptive to client feedback, which is key to building rapport and trust. My journey to mental healthcare I discovered my love for this profession by accident. I started working with the Severely, Persistently Mentally Ill population. I felt comfortable among them and realized that despite their challenges, they wanted to be heard, validated, and acknowledged. I continued working in various settings, which inspired me to stay in the profession. I believe each of us is valuable. Some are not aware of that value, and I’m here to support and guide them into that discovery.
