Getting to know Marcia Sherrod

I am a licensed therapist with Meru Health. In just 12 weeks, the duration of our program, you will build skills to reduce stress, alleviate anxiety, and better manage uncomfortable emotions. I'll support you through unlimited chat messaging and scheduled video calls throughout this journey. I would be delighted to explore with you whatever brings you to therapy at this time in your life. If you are struggling with a life transition, stress, or symptoms of depression or anxiety, we can work together with curiosity and compassion to help you develop the skills necessary to tolerate difficult emotions and situations in the present moment while helping you reconnect to your own vitality. If you are feeling stuck and unsure how the future will unfold, I would be honored to help you learn to embrace uncertainty while creating a meaningful, authentic life. Mindfulness, self-compassion, and meditation have changed my life, and I am humbled and would be honored to share these skills with you. I specialize in applying mindfulness to anxiety, attention issues, depression, grief, and life transitions. My approach is collaborative, compassion-focused, and strengths-based. I have a particular interest in working with young adults, new parents, women, and anyone interested in developing a mindfulness practice. I have studied Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), insight-oriented meditation, self-compassion, yoga, and various forms of expressive and movement-based therapies for both personal and professional development during the past 12 years. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Texas, Austin, and a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina.

Meru came in with artillery, when I was at a loss in battle. I finally know how to fight back with the wealth of tools and my body is retrained thanks to HRV.
This was the program I had been looking for. Real time skills and help in the moment. I wanted something more than just a weekly session with a therapist - I wanted tools that would help me move forward and improve. I wanted to feel happiness, and better in general. This is a tool kit I will use again and again. Worth the time and investment. (Even working as a mom of 4.) I am thankful I found the program and think every mom and person should have this program on their team.
When I started the Meru program, I was a version of myself that I no longer recognized and even feared. Anxiety became a prominent part of my every day and affected my self-esteem and how often I engaged in activities that made me happy. I knew that my anxiety stemmed from a place of regretting past actions and worrying about the future, and it was difficult for me to enjoy the present with those worries and fears in mind. At the beginning of my journey with Meru I would ask myself “How is THIS going to help me? I feel exactly the same.” However over time my symptoms started to lessen and I would find myself resorting to the tools that I was learning, even when I wasn’t logged into the app. It took a true commitment to myself, to the program, and to the change that I wanted to make in order for me to truly reap the benefits of this program. The program has helped me to stay present, to remind myself of my core values, and to live from a place of abundance. While the program did not “fix” or “erase”my problems, it did give me tools to mitigate the effect of what those problems have on me. The program gave me tools to help me navigate through hardship. Now that my time with the program is coming to an end, I see a version of myself that is strong, hopeful, and that I can learn to love again.
I heard about this program and knew immediately it was something I was interested in pursuing. I am so happy I did. The practices are great tools for someone who struggles with chronic depression and anxiety. Mindfulness is such an important tool to help combat these and now I have more tools in my kit to help me when things are great or bleak. I’m forever grateful to my therapist, Marcia. The only regret I have is that I cannot keep her as my therapist! If this program is available and you are committed to feeling better, try it! I loved it and it really helped!
