Getting to know Margaret Amoss

Hello, I'm Margaret. Even during the best of times, navigating the complexities and demands of life can be challenging. At this point in history, we all face life situations for which we may not be entirely equipped. Despite the current events around us, now is always a good time to begin a journey of healing. Such a journey brings new perspectives and also reveals hidden strengths and skills. Thus, in addition to resolving issues, I also see the goal of counseling as helping clients find increased meaning and joy in life. In 2009, I graduated from Brenau University with a master’s degree in Clinical Counseling. Since then, I have worked in a clinic with adults seeking to recover from addiction and related issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and other mental illnesses. I also worked for some years with older adults in an intensive outpatient facility at a hospital. In addition to mental health issues, I also assisted them in coping with chronic pain, memory loss, and disabilities resulting from stroke or other physical illnesses. I remain dedicated to learning about new research related to healing chronic pain and memory issues to more effectively help clients who struggle with these issues. A cognitive behavioral approach is a useful and effective way to assist clients in resolving issues and is a part of my toolbox as a counselor. Because we are all connected to others, I also use a family systems approach. Additionally, I have had extensive training in other modalities, including Brainspotting, Energy Psychology, and hypnosis. Brainspotting was developed specifically for use with those who have a history of complex trauma. Energy psychology techniques are helpful for working with a wide variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and chronic pain. I specialize in a variety of areas including addiction, dementia, anger management, bipolar disorder, depression, family relationships.
