Psychotherapist
IL
Hi, I’m Maria, a Licensed Professional Counselor offering telehealth therapy across Illinois. I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna and am accepting new clients. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or mentally exhausted, you’re not alone. It’s common to come to therapy when anxiety, overthinking, burnout, or life transitions start to feel unmanageable—especially after carrying things on your own for a while. Sometimes there’s a general sense that something feels “off,” along with wanting to better understand what’s going on internally. My approach is warm, supportive, and down-to-earth. I create a space where you don’t have to “have it all together,” and where it’s okay to ask for help, while helping you build practical tools to feel more steady, clear, and grounded in daily life. I draw from evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, ACT, and solution-focused therapy, depending on what best supports your needs. Our work together is tailored to you—whether that’s developing coping strategies, finding what works for you, improving emotional understanding, or something else that fits your needs. With experience across inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings, I support both everyday stress and a wide range of emotional experiences. Starting or returning to therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve been managing things on your own for a while. You don’t have to figure it out alone—there’s no judgment here. Telehealth sessions are available with flexible scheduling, including evenings. You can book directly through Zocdoc. What should a new client know about working with you?

In the first session, I spend time getting to know what’s been going on, what’s feeling most difficult right now, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. I’ll ask questions, listen closely, and help organize what you’re experiencing so we can start making sense of it together. From there, we focus on the areas that feel most important to you. In sessions, this might look like talking through specific situations, noticing patterns in thoughts and emotions, and practicing tools you can actually use between sessions to manage stress and feel more grounded. As we continue, we keep checking in on what’s helping and what’s not, and adjust our focus so we stay with what’s working for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is focused on getting a sense of what’s been going on, what brought you in, and what you’d like support with. I’ll ask questions to better understand your situation and what feels most important to work on. After that, we start focusing more directly on those areas in a way that feels manageable for you. This may include identifying patterns, building coping skills, or exploring new ways to handle stress and emotions. Over time, we continue to check in on what’s helping and adjust our focus as needed so the work stays helpful for where you are.
