I am Dr. Maribel Aheran, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor licensed in multiple states. I specialize in ADHD, Trauma, Grief, Depression, Anxiety, and PTSD. My educational journey includes earning a Bachelor's degree from Caribbean University, Bayamón Campus, a Master's in Counseling from Troy University, and an EdD in Educational Leadership and Administration from Edgewood College. My approach The most common theoretical approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic, Adlerian, Trauma Therapy, and Play Therapy. My focus Typically, I help clients who are veterans or active duty, have ADHD, have experienced trauma, identify as LGBTQ+, have experienced grief, or are neurodivergent. My communication style I am a relaxed, accepting, empathetic, relatable, open-minded, and kind provider. My journey to therapy I first knew I wanted to be a therapist during my first year of college; however, I decided to complete a degree in education and become a teacher. I worked in the public school system for 15 years, serving as a teacher, Special Education Coordinator, and Guidance Counselor. Eventually, I chose to chase my true passion and became a Clinical Mental Health Therapist. What makes this career my passion is having the ability to help people and positively impact their lives! My goals for you My approach is to meet clients where they are, mutually identify goals, assess and track progress periodically, help them learn about their diagnosis, and try to identify the root of the problem. My first session with you During the first session, I focus on learning more about the client, building rapport, and identifying possible treatment obstacles.
