Getting to know Marissa McKnight

Marissa has a Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of San Diego, California in 2017. During her graduate studies, Marissa received advanced courses in the following: trauma and risk assessment, human sexuality, psychopharmacology, addictions, evidence based theories, human development, law and ethics, clinical interviewing, multicultural counseling, and group counseling. She has provided individual and group care to adults and older teenage clients in the following settings: volunteer service (domestic violence, Veteran, and Pan Asian populations), graduate practicum placement (homeless Veterans with substance use disorders), and 4 years of providing outpatient care in a community mental health setting in the Olympic Peninsula. Marissa collaboratively works alongside clients to identify their needs and treatment goals. She is comfortable in the use of the following therapeutic approaches: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), specialized treatment to address the needs of clients with personality disorders, and other strength-based therapies. Spending time with family and friends, hiking and camping, traveling, music and cooking.
