Getting to know Marissa Shaffer

I have my Master's in Somatic Psychotherapy with a concentration in Dance/Movement Therapy from Naropa. As a queer and neurodivergent therapist, I value creating an affirming, collaborative space you or your child can show up as their full selves. I believe that many of our deepest experiences, emotions, and needs are communicated through the body, often before they can be expressed in words.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My work integrates dance/movement therapy, somatic awareness, play, art, and creative expression to help you better understand your behaviors, emotions, and internal experiences. Across all ages, I believe that curiosity, creativity, and authentic connection can open pathways toward healing and growth. At the heart of my practice is the belief that connection is one of the most important elements of therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I think therapy should be a soft place for you to land. I hope our therapeutic relationship can be build on trust in order to support your growth in goals we co-create together. I offer compassion, curiosity, hope, and a regulated presence to support you until you can access those resources within yourself!
