Mark Adamski, LMHC

Psychotherapist
MA
I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified ARISE® Interventionist with nearly a decade of experience inside the teen and young adult treatment industry. I work primarily with parents of struggling teens and young adults (ages 13–25) — the families dealing with defiance, disconnection, substance use, mental health crises, or a child who refuses to get help. What makes my approach different: I've seen the system from the inside. I know which interventions actually work, which "treatment" recommendations parents should question, and how to help you move from exhausted and reactive to clear-headed and effective. Whether you're terrified about your kid, burned out from years of walking on eggshells, or stuck in the cycle of bailing them out, you don't have to figure this out alone. I'll meet you where you are and help you find a path that actually fits your family.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is warm but direct. I'm not going to just nod along — if I see something you're missing, I'll name it. That said, you'll never feel judged in my office. Most parents I work with are exhausted, scared, and second-guessing every decision they've made. My job is to help you see your situation clearly, not pile on more guilt. A few things to expect: I won't slap a diagnosis on your kid based on a 30-minute description. Real assessment takes time, and I'm cautious about quick labels. I'll push back on advice you've gotten from other professionals if I think it's off-base. The treatment industry isn't always working in your family's best interest, and part of my job is helping you become a savvy consumer of services. I focus on what you can control. Your child may or may not change on their timeline. We work on your responses, your boundaries, your wellbeing, and your strategy — because that's where real leverage lives. You'll get genuine therapeutic support AND a clear, practical plan. I bring both a clinical lens and a strategist's lens to every session. I offer all of my families consultation for treatment navigation in addition to family coaching programs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

First session: We spend most of our time mapping out your situation — what's happening with your child, what you've already tried, what's working and what isn't, and what's keeping you up at night. I'll ask direct questions and probably challenge a few assumptions. By the end, you'll leave with at least one concrete shift to try before our next session. Ongoing sessions: A typical session has three parts. We start by checking in on what's happened since we last talked — what you tried, what blew up, what surprised you. Then we go deeper on whatever's most pressing: processing your own grief and fear, planning a difficult conversation, working through a parenting decision, or looking at patterns in your family system. We end by getting clear on what you're focusing on next. I draw from family systems work, motivational interviewing, CBT, and ARISE® intervention principles — but I keep the jargon out of our sessions. You're not here for a textbook. You're here because something has to change, and you need a clear path forward. Sessions are typically weekly to start, then we adjust based on what you need.
