Getting to know Mark Chaney

Hi there, I'm Mark! My name is Mark Chaney, LPC. I provide counseling and counseling-related services for children, adolescents, adults, and families together. I have 15 years of cumulative training and experience in the fields of mental health, trauma, domestic violence, foster care, and adoption. I use an integrated model that builds upon an individual’s existing beliefs, strategies, and virtues. I earned my Master’s in Professional Counseling from Texas Wesleyan University. My approach I am a lifelong student of philosophy and have a strong basis in Existential Psychotherapy. I am also skilled in Narrative Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I have found that integrating these specific leading therapeutic models is most effective in meeting a variety of needs. My focus I work with individuals and families experiencing a wide array of presenting concerns. Some clients I see are experiencing short-term stressors, while others are experiencing longer-term mental health disturbances. For individual therapy, I generally treat adults and adolescents ages 12 and older. For children younger than 12, or for adolescents otherwise not appropriate for telehealth, it may be recommended to address concerns in the form of family therapy. As my current openings are for telehealth only, appropriateness for this setting is a primary component of my current client focus. My communication style Therapy sessions entail a reverential and invitational tone. Clients indicate experiencing a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment. My journey to therapy Psychotherapy emerged as a path for me in my 20s. In adolescence, I experienced grief and loss, the benefit of psychotherapy, and a budding love of psychology and philosophy. I also found relief in expressive arts—painting, sculpture, music, and reading.

Most therapists make me feel unintelligible. Mark, however, counters my incoherence with virtuous tact.
