“It's only been a few meetings but I have enjoyed my time to this point. Mark had challenge me and asked the questions others won't. My personality is strong and often misunderstood for domineering. This usually leads to people not letting me know if I'm looking at things incorrectly. Mark has not been that person and has pointed out a couple flaws in my thinking that have helped me move forward. I look forward to our weekly meetings.”

“I set out looking for a therapist who could encourage and affirm me with Biblical truth and to help me feel empowered to face my challenges and conquer their power over my life with confidence and strength. I am so thankful that I found Mark through Grow and that my world was opened to the healing power of EFT. Mark is encouraging, authentic, thoughtful, empowering, and helps me to see situations through a new lense. He goes at my pace while also encouraging me to take hard steps to move forward. He has a great sense of humor, and makes great use of a pensive pause. I could never find the words that would fully capture my gratitude for the time and care he has invested into my healing and to prepare me for the future outside of his virtual space.”

Getting to know Mark H Murphy

If you can read this, you've taken the first step. Congratulations. Seeking therapy is hard. Most people delay and tell themselves that whatever they are experiencing must be the way life is. Chances are, if you have reached the point to begin exploring therapy, counseling can help make your life better. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years. I earned my Master's in Community and College Counseling from Longwood University. During my career, I have worked with men, women, teens, and families on a wide variety of issues. Sometimes that work simply involved helping them through a particular incident or life change that overwhelmed them. Other times, our work together centered around longstanding issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction. I believe that you cannot laugh without a combination of insight and relief. You can expect some humor in most sessions. In addition to traditional cognitive behavioral therapy, I also offer a fourth-wave therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I have found this technique to be highly effective in helping people with trauma and anxiety. Our minds and bodies are connected. Anyone who has experienced a tight neck and shoulders or an upset stomach when stressed knows this. EFT uses acupressure (done by the client) and cognitive interventions to provide fast and effective relief.

What should a new client know about working with you?

During our first session, I will have a lot of background questions for you. To best help you, I need to get a full picture of your life. If you fill out a pre-appointment questionnaire before the session, that will save us some time. However, we will still need to review it to make sure I understand everything. When the session is over you will no longer be alone with your problem and will likely experience some new feelings of hope and relief. I will also make sure that regardless of how long it took to get background information you leave with at least one new tool to help you with your problem.

In-network insurances

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
