Psychotherapist
CA
I am Marlene Acevedo-Manzo, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master’s in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach. I value using a whole-person and empathic approach in every session. My goal is to help individuals improve their mental health, address relationship difficulties, and adjust to challenging life changes. I approach therapy from a trauma-informed and client-centered perspective, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-Focused, and Strength-Based interventions. I have experience working with various populations, ranging from transitional age youth (15-25) to adults and older adults. My background includes mental health, medical social work, and substance abuse treatment in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I am skilled in crisis intervention and have worked with individuals, families, and groups. I particularly enjoy supporting those experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and adjustment disorders. I provide a safe space where clients and I work as a team. We problem-solve and address challenges and barriers together, with the client taking the lead every step of the way. When I was younger, my mom suffered from cancer, and a social worker helped connect us to resources and provided the emotional support we needed during difficult times. This experience inspired my passion for helping others. As I worked with youth, I developed a commitment to supporting disadvantaged populations, including the incarcerated, who often have limited support and resources. Addressing mental health can help solve and manage multiple challenges in one’s life, such as substance abuse. I collaborate with clients to develop goals based on their individual needs.
