Getting to know Marlene Hollis Ochetti

Hello, I am a licensed clinical social worker in California with a PhD in Marital and Family Therapy from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. My experience includes working with individuals presenting with anxiety, life transitions, depression, relationship challenges, and trauma. As a biracial therapist of African-American and Japanese ancestry, I strive to bring increased insight and understanding to those addressing issues related to (bi)racial identity, race, and culture. My approach to treatment is strength-based, which, as the term suggests, focuses on an individual's strengths, abilities, and capabilities. Together, we explore the circumstances or events, past or present, that have been impactful, significant, and distressing. We then work collaboratively to establish treatment goals and a pathway to move forward. This can include examining our thoughts, challenging ideas, increasing coping skills, and harnessing internal and external resources such as resilience, creativity, humor, courage, support groups, and faith or spiritual beliefs. Lastly, I believe everyone has the capacity for self-expression, which is both beneficial and therapeutic. To that end, I enjoy illustrating and writing for children and encourage others to embrace their creative pursuits. Self-expression is the groundwork for my work with clients: to proceed with dedication, humility, and compassion.
