Marlon January, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Marlon! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Bakersfield, California, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I hold a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Phoenix. I specialize in working with adults and adolescents to address symptoms of anxiety, anger, depression, and trauma (PTSD). I utilize Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused Brief, and Humanistic Therapy approaches to help my clients make progress toward self-awareness, mood regulation, and actualizing the best version of themselves. My approach I primarily use a solution-focused approach-Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)-which is goal-oriented and incorporates positive psychology principles. This method helps my clients create solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Alongside SFBT, I also integrate Cognitive Behavioral and Humanistic Therapy techniques tailored to each client's needs. My focus I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults, teens, and young adults facing life transitions and social pressures. These challenges often present as anxiety, depression, stress, and anger. I work to help my clients navigate these periods and build skills that allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life. My communication style My communication style is calm, empathic, accommodating, and real-life oriented. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything without the stress or fear of judgment or blame. I pride myself on my therapeutic rapport and ability to connect with my clients. My journey to mental healthcare I decided to become a therapist because I believe talk therapy can be a powerful vehicle for changing one's life, personal happiness, and self-awareness. Therapy helped me understand that we as humans are more powerful and capable than we often give ourselves credit for.
