Getting to know Mary Brooks

Hi, I'm Imani, a licensed clinical social worker with a Master's in Social Work from Barry University. My approach in therapy is strengths-based and client-centered, meaning I collaborate with you to identify your personal strengths and develop solutions tailored to your unique situation. I focus on substance abuse, anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, and relationship issues. Some common theoretical approaches I use include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, person-centered therapy, and solution-focused therapy. Each has its own focus and techniques, and I select approaches based on your needs and goals. For example, CBT helps identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors; psychodynamic therapy explores unconscious patterns and past experiences; person-centered therapy emphasizes your autonomy and the therapeutic relationship; and solution-focused therapy helps you identify and work toward specific goals. I work with a wide range of clients?individuals, couples, families, and groups?across different ages and backgrounds. My focus is on treating substance use, mental health, mood disorders, and related symptoms. I strive to create an atmosphere of safety, confidentiality, empathy, and respect, where you can feel comfortable sharing your feelings and thoughts without judgment. I foster a calm, peaceful, and welcoming environment, listen attentively using active-listening skills, summarize what you share, and offer empathetic responses.
