Getting to know Mary Jo Davis

Hello, I'm Mary Jo. I have extensive knowledge and skills in outpatient mental health and school clinical practices, wellness interventions and programs, and implementing mental wellness professional development. I have provided trainings both locally and nationally on evidence-based practices in schools. I supervised clinicians in outpatient substance abuse for a hospital treatment program and served as a supervisor for clinicians in Employee Assistance Programs. Most recently, I have been an administrator within a large school division supporting 187 school social workers, supervisors, and several managers. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Catholic University of America and have received clinical training in DBT, solution-focused, and CBT modalities. In my private practice, I work with older children, adolescents, and families. I am passionate about supporting individuals and families’ mental health and wellness by assisting adolescents and families in finding solutions to improve their relationships, moods, and overall happiness. I specialize in helping adolescents navigate the next steps toward college and career success and manage strong emotions such as anxiety, sadness, and anger to foster healthier relationships with peers, teachers, and family members. In our counseling sessions, we will focus on identifying your goals for holistic health, better relationships, and solutions for peace and happiness in your life. Due to my full-time employment with the school division, I am unable to accept referrals from students and families in Fairfax County Public Schools.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a solution-focused, relational approach in my practice. At times, I may recommend other resources if needed and as appropriate for next steps in our counseling sessions. Some people may inquire about the number of counseling sessions they may need and in our counseling sessions together we come up with your goals and will monitor them for progress together. You will be guided through the beginning, middle and end of our counseling sessions and will know when it is time to end the counseling. The solutions are within yourself and our sessions and time in counseling together will guide your mental wellness work.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
