As the daughter of a psychiatrist, I know how important it is to feel like your voice has been heard and your issues addressed in a compassionate, healing environment. My journey to mental healthcare I had a long career working in Nashville as a singer/songwriter. As stated above, I am the daughter of a psychiatrist and worked in his office in my early years which was a proving ground for what I do now. My father took me on house calls and this helps me to understand others who have gone through trauma or witnessed it. In therapy or music, we are getting people in touch with their feelings. My first job after undergraduate school was as a makeup and wardrobe assistant to the rock group KISS. Later in life, I returned to graduate school and was supervised by neuropsychologists which helped me to help others with knowledge, but more importantly, understanding and compassion.
