“My first visit with Mary was great! I felt so comfortable that I shared things I never shared with my last therapist. Her aura is light and beautiful. My insurance covers therapy for free with a different company but I will 100% pay to see her again.”

Getting to know Mary Locklear Jones

Do you need support or help with tough feelings, behaviors, or situations? I'm here to help. My job is to allow you to work through whatever you have going on and need to get through. Your strengths, interests, and abilities are recognized. Sometimes it starts with assisting you to identify what you want differently, what you expect, and what you do not want, and together we develop a way to meet your goal. I want you to want change, want clarification, and motivate you to reach your goal together. I cannot do the work for you, but I can support you. As I wrote earlier, I'm here to help. Listening is key. Sometimes we, as individuals, just want to be heard. I listen and summarize: "I hear what you are saying... and... but," summarizing your responses to get clarification. I will make suggestions-not ultimatums or directions. I will redirect you on what you can, cannot do, or what you are willing to try. You got this. I want you to know that you do! Please feel free to reach out to me and ask questions. I may not be a good fit, and that's fine. I may be able to redirect you to someone who can help or to resources I am aware of. I hold a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Service Agency Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, which have equipped me with the skills and knowledge to support you effectively.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am currently a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHCS #9105) in North Carolina as well as a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS #2714), and a Certified Clinical Supervisor (#20208) also licensed in North Carolina. I am allowed to practice within the state of North Carolina and virtual only in the state of South Carolina.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My supervision style is didactic in that I use several supervision modalities. I use Psychotherapy Based, Cognitive Behavioral and Person-Centered modalities. Not all supervisees or clients are the same because we are all individualist and unique. What may work for some might not work for you, and what will work for you will not work for some. I am trained predominately in Person-Centered thinking because I am a strong believer in working with what the client wants to work on and is willing to work on. I mirror this style in Supervision. I use Cognitive Behavioral styles in assisting my supervisees with linking their thoughts to their feelings while practicing as well as mindfulness of their clients. As a therapist, I also am a strong believer in Motivational Interviewing in encouraging change and healing. I also use a ‘here and now’ approach or Gestalt style of interventions approaches, and I strongly advocate for Brendtro’s Positive Peer culture in group settings.
