Mary Taboada, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Mary! As a therapist, I work with you to help identify your strengths and empower you to make positive changes in your life. I recognize that making the decision to seek help can be difficult, so I use an approach that is compassionate, direct, and non-judgmental to create an environment where you feel supported, validated, and safe. In 2007, I began my journey working in the counseling field by helping survivors of domestic violence. I soon discovered my passion is helping individuals, families, and couples find ways to rebuild their lives by overcoming repeated cycles of violence that stem from childhood trauma and repeated behaviors. I continued my calling in domestic violence by teaching classes on preventing violence through a probation program. To further my experience, I spent time working in a residential treatment program specializing in drug and alcohol addiction. This opened my eyes to the relationship between addiction, childhood trauma, violence, and diverse mental health struggles. While working with adults facing addiction and dual diagnoses, I found ways to help them change their lives with new purpose and motivation to pursue positive changes. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities, including eclectic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, strategic therapy, gestalt therapy, person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, emotion-focused therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and narrative-based therapy. I hold a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Phoenix. Currently, I focus my time at a community nonprofit organization helping adult individuals from diverse backgrounds who face mental health struggles infused with relationship challenges, communication difficulties, trauma, anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders that impair their ability to live life to their full potential.
