Getting to know Matthew Ercolani

Matt works with teens, young adults, adults, and little ones, with a special interest in LGBTQ+ concerns, existential issues, anxiety, and depression. Matt believes in taking a collaborative approach to counseling. As he says, “I'm the expert on mental health, but my clients are the experts of their own lives.” With that in mind, Matt helps his clients gain insight into their goals and values and how their choices impact their pursuit of those goals and values. He also uses humor to help each client identify their strengths and areas for growth, then determine the best path forward together. Matt understands that sometimes it feels like your brain and thoughts are your own worst enemy, responsible for self-defeating thoughts, negative self-talk, and other harmful cognitions. A self-described “anxious person who has learned how not to be,” Matt can help you turn the volume down on your brain when necessary. Matt earned his Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from West Chester University. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania and a Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health in Delaware. Matt primarily utilizes CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), REBT (rational emotive behavior therapy), and choice theory techniques.

What should a new client know about working with you?

A Personal Note from Matt regarding his approach towards counseling: "I believe that everyone has the potential to improve their life. I also believe that *everyone* deserves the chance to try to find happiness. Life often feels like a very lonely place, and it can seem too overwhelming to even ask for help. Regardless of where you come from, or where you are going, let's take the first step together to help you get there.”
