Getting to know Matthew Ewen

With all of the challenges that life can throw at us, it is easy to feel overwhelmed or helpless. Life satisfaction and happiness might seem like distant goals with no clear path forward to reach them. You may find that you are spending more and more time stuck in your own head, perseverating on your struggles and acting as your own harshest critic. To me, therapy rooted in compassion and empathy can be a fantastic tool for navigating these challenges and discovering meaning and self-empowerment. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Boston University, which laid the foundation for my clinical approach. Having begun my career at a community mental health clinic, I have experience working with a diverse population of adult clients from many socioeconomic, racial, and cultural backgrounds and with a variety of presenting concerns and challenges. I specialize in treatment for anxiety, depression, and trauma as well as struggles with substance use and always adapt my therapeutic techniques to the individual needs of my clients. My philosophy is that therapy is a partnership between client and therapist to help foster healthy coping skills, personal growth, self-compassion, and understanding of oneself.

What should a new client know about working with you?

If you are new to therapy or just beginning with a new therapist, getting started can sometimes feel overwhelming. As such, it is my goal when starting with a new client to build a level of understanding and comfort to make the process feel a bit less intimidating. During our first few sessions, we will discuss what your needs and goals for therapy are and what you hope to get out of the experience. This is to help me understand your concerns and collaborate with you to find the best therapeutic approach for the challenges you are facing. Our follow up sessions will focus on how to best address your needs - both the overarching goals that may have brought you to therapy in the first place as well as the day-to-day obstacles that you may encounter along the way.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Matt has been great in being sensitive to my needs and doesn't shy away from discussing any topics or exploring ideas. He does not shy away from challenging thoughts or conclusions about subjects, but he does it in a caring and constructive way.
My session with Matt today was nothing short of great. He is patient, listens, empathic and offers solutions. Looking to put into practice what we talked about and our next session/s.
He is super validating and also keeps things light if needed. He is interested in learning about patients' hobbies/interests to better understand them and I think that's really cool! He is also super relatable and very easy to talk to. I feel listened to and that means a lot.
Matthew is awesome. From day one, I could feel his energy and knew that he genuinely cared for his patients and wanted to see them get the help they need. He allows the patient to be themselves and starts off each session just asking how they are personally doing and how their week went. He provides great life strategies that can be applied to his patient's individual situation. He is definitely an expert in his craft and any patient would benefit from having him as a therapist. I highly recommend him. I am grateful to have found him.
Matthew has been extremely kind and helpful in pushing me forward and helping me eliminate some thoughts that I have been experiencing. He makes me laugh and makes me reconsider the aspects that I bring up by looking at them from a different perspective and asking me questions that help guide me. I truly appreciate the insight he provides, even the smallest things have made a large impact on my life. Thank You, Matt.
