Matthew Sandford, LPC

Psychotherapist
VA
My name is Matt Sandford, and I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for 14 years, with 16 years of total experience. I hold a Master's in Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary and a Bachelor's from Albright College. I believe creating a safe space enables people to explore and process what's on their minds and in their hearts, leading to health, strength, and growth. While I have varied experience, I specialize in stress and anxiety, relationship challenges, marriage, self-worth issues, and spiritual concerns. My approach In therapy, I strive to meet clients where they are. I am familiar with CBT, Rogerian, Adlerian, Psychodynamic, and Gestalt theories. My focus I have worked with a wide range of people in age, challenges, cultural backgrounds, and beliefs. I have strong experience with anxiety, stress, depression, shame, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, marital concerns, and spiritual issues. Additionally, I have extensive experience with grief, parenting challenges, coaching, and life transitions. My communication style I listen, empathize, and seek to understand, asking questions to clarify concerns and get to the heart of the matter. For me, the heart of the matter is not just circumstances or feelings, but how you are affected inside-what it means to you. My journey to therapy Through my own struggles with shame and anxiety, I found therapy life-changing and wanted to help others similarly. I believe we all need to grow throughout life, and for major growth, we cannot do it alone. Help from others is essential. My goals for you I see goal setting as a collaborative process, understanding goals may evolve as we progress together.
