“Ms. Marvernie has been my individual therapist for almost a year. When I searched for a therapist I needed someone not only educated, but experienced. Someone with life experiences. She is always attentive, listens intently, and provides me with the support and feed back I need. The questions she asks, helps me to self evaluate and see what I need to work on and self care. Ms. Marvernie gives me encouragement and inspiration. I recommend her.”

Getting to know Mavernie Mitchell

My name is Mavernie Mitchell. I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker focused on Mental Health. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from California State University, San Bernardino. I have done this work for many years, feel blessed by the patients I work with, and consider it an honor to support those who seek mental health treatment. My approach My work is focused, goal-directed, purposeful, and problem-centered, while offering support, warmth, caring, and deep regard for patients' rights and potential for change. I treat every session as an opportunity to make progress. I use several theoretical approaches, mostly Cognitive Behavioral, Client-Centered, and Problem-Solving. These help me and my patients build a shared understanding of what is lacking as we work together to resolve their issues. My focus I work with patients who are depressed, anxious, grieving, struggling with self-esteem, facing family problems, and wanting to change behaviors detrimental to their happiness. I work with teenagers trying to find their niche and elderly patients who are lonely and need someone to talk with. I serve people of every race who seek my help. My communication style I strive to create a warm and welcoming environment in each session. Often, we talk as if we’ve known each other for a long time. I encourage openness and honesty, reminding patients that everything they share is confidential. I let them know it’s okay to cry, tell a joke, laugh, and be themselves. My clients quickly learn that therapy is one of the best ways to care for themselves. They are always welcome. My journey to mental healthcare My mother’s focus in life was always to help others and contributed greatly to my success as a Social Worker. One example ingrained in my psyche was when she saw a little boy in our neighborhood going to school in dirty clothes. This moment inspired my commitment to making a difference in people’s lives.
