Maya Chehab, LPC

Psychotherapist
53 W Jackson Blvd, Ste 1450, Chicago, IL
For those of us who struggle with intense inner conflicts, who put up strong defensive walls, forbidding anyone to come close, who feel isolated, lonely, frustrated, and confused, I invite you to think of therapy as an adventurous self-discovery sail. While embarking on that journey requires courage and tenacity, it will lead you to a rewarding path. Together, we will identify deep-rooted issues and patterns that might hinder your access to feelings, memories, and experiences. Taking a curious look to observe and understand our inner self often comes with a dramatic sense of revelation. Revealing what motivates our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can unlock renewed self-awareness, leading to meaningful breakthroughs and a feeling of liberation. This newly acquired knowledge can transform and enrich the relationship with ourselves and with the world surrounding us. I hold a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Clinical and Pathological Psychology from Saint-Joseph University, where I developed a strong foundation in understanding the complexities of the human mind and behavior. This training informs my compassionate and insightful approach to therapy, guiding you through your journey of self-discovery and healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My expertise includes working with those who struggle with anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, addictions, and trauma. I help adults understand the impact of adverse childhood experiences, such as abuse, neglect, or instability, on their life and their relationships. At times, childhood struggles are at the source of challenges at work, undermining our leadership, effectiveness, or communication. I’m also there to help individuals and couples navigate cultural adjustment, interpersonal conflict, separation, loss, grief, perinatal and postnatal transitions, and parenting challenges. My practice is informed by psychoanalysis and mindfulness. My approach is holistic, as it welcomes the person as a whole by addressing their history including their background, their personality, and their embodied experience. I like to offer a safe, non-judgmental space where one can be heard and understood differently.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Once you contact me, we will set up an initial appointment where we can explore working together. In that initial session, you can let me know what brings you to therapy and how you hope it will help. During our initial appointment we'll start getting a sense of whether it would be a good fit to work with each other. If we decide to continue working together, I'll suggest to meet at least weekly, so that we can start developing a consistent flow to our work together. Sessions are usually 55 minutes long.

I am in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) PPO plans. If you have this type of plan, we will submit insurance claims directly. You might be responsible for part of the cost if you have a deductible or a copay. We will try to verify benefits before our first appointment, so that we have an idea of what to expect. When contacting me, please remember to add a photo of your insurance card. If you have a different insurance provider (not BCBS PPO), you will be responsible for our full fee each session. We will provide you a bill that you can use to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, provided that your plan has out-of-network benefits.
