Getting to know Melissa Coulson

Hi, I'm Melissa, nice to meet you! I am a social worker licensed in California with a Master's in Social Work from the University of Southern California and experience working as a medical social worker and therapist. You are coming here to gain the tools and understanding to deal with something in your life, and I would love to be your partner in that! Prior to becoming a social worker, I worked in Human Resources and the medical field and enjoy being able to benefit my clients as needed with this experience as well. I love supporting clients with concerns including depression, anxiety, grief, chronic pain, and chronic illness, among others. I have also worked with clients who just need someone to support them through challenging experiences, emotions, and life changes. My style is direct, positive, and warm, with a focus on supporting clients but holding them accountable to their goals for treatment. I believe in helping clients build their mental toolbox to address current issues and be better prepared to meet new challenges with confidence throughout the rest of their lives. My clients say I am easy to open up to, genuine, and a good listener. I would love to connect with you to help you through your current season of life and whatever challenges you are currently facing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My main goal is for clients feel supported and I offer information, tools (interventions), skills, and perspectives as they figure out how to navigate their challenges differently. I hold clients accountable to taking steps to address their concerns and help when they are stuck. I do assign “homework” but it is on measurable, manageable steps clients can take in between sessions to help them be successful with what they are struggling with. This can be a variety of things including researching something they need to know about to inform decision making, engaging in self care, using proven interventions to work through emotional challenges, or practicing new tools and skills to gain confidence and competence that can change relationships and outcome for the better.

In-network insurances

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
