“She was very attentive, very clear and makes you feel comfortable sharing your sensitive issues. I would without a doubt definitely recommend a session with this therapist again. For it being my first session I really felt like I had someone to finally speak with that wasn't going to judge me right off the back.”

Getting to know Melissa Hallman

My name is Melissa, and my passion as a psychotherapist allows me to provide a safe space to explore past traumas, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and life stressors. Holding a Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University, and a Doctorate in Healthcare administration, I understand that seeking therapy is a courageous step. I offer therapeutic services to adults and children, providing a compassionate, nonjudgmental, and encouraging environment to effectively communicate stressors and get to the root of emotional patterns. “Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into.” – Wayne Dyer

What should a new client know about working with you?

My areas of specialty include anxiety and depression, family systems, life transitions, identity and self-esteem, substance abuse, interpersonal effectiveness, cultural identity, relational difficulties, trauma, LGBTQ+ concerns, and gender identity. I use a psychodynamic foundation and draw from evidence-based approaches including ACT, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness-based practices to personalize treatment to your unique needs. Through exploration and increased self-awareness, we will identify and restructure the negative patterns contributing to your distress while building upon your inherent strengths and value. No matter what brings you to therapy, my goal is to empower and equip you with tools to navigate the challenges of daily life. Having the right support on your journey can make all the difference, and I would be honored to be your cheerleader and accountability partner throughout this process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe in the individual’s unique experience. We all have parts of ourselves that we don’t recognize, don’t understand, or simply feel we cannot change. My 10 years working as an EMT with the fire department created the foundation for the empathy, compassion, and calm presence I bring into the therapy room today. Supporting people through crisis, trauma, and life’s most vulnerable moments taught me the importance of feeling truly seen, heard, and supported. In our nonjudgmental and safe space, with you as the captain, we will explore what is causing difficulties in your life and how you can grow into a more fulfilling way of living. At times, I may challenge you to dig deeper, but I will support you every step of the way. I facilitate a nurturing environment where you can develop authentic confidence and make the transitions and changes that are important to you. Finding the right therapist can feel daunting. I encourage you to trust your intuition and find someone with whom you truly resonate.
