Dr. Melissa Hunter, PhD, LMFT

Psychotherapist
1005 N Elm St, Ste C, Denton, TX
Sometimes we can get thrown into changes we weren’t ready for: a personal or family member with a medical diagnosis, an unexpected death of a loved one, struggles with infertility, a global pandemic or relationship challenges. Maybe the change is welcomed: a recent engagement or marriage, the birth of a child, graduation, or a child moving on to college. Regardless of whether these changes are expected or unexpected, wanted or unwanted, I am confident that changes can be embraced in the midst of our joy or grief. The heart of my therapeutic approach is the belief that we can become our own resources when we learn new ways to approach our issues or situation. I believe individuals, couples, and families have the ability to change—sometimes we just need some assistance to do so. With over 20 years of experience working with couples, individuals, and families, I have helped many clients obtain the tools necessary to improve their lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Everyone in my therapy office, whether in-person or virtual, has a voice. I provide a safe space where you have an opportunity to feel heard, valued, and seen. The first session is you sharing your story and me gaining information by asking questions, reflection, and approaches you have taken to the situation. My goal as a therapist is for you to put your head on your pillow at night and have peace. I won't know what that looks or feels like and you may not know at the time what that would look or feel like either. That is okay! We can discover that together! My hope is that you discover new approaches and reflections about yourself and see all of the strengths you have. It is a privilege to get to be a part of your journey and story.
