Getting to know Mellissa Horton
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina and a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina. I work with adults, especially women who may look like they have it all together on the outside but feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally tired, or stuck on the inside. Many of the clients I work with are used to pushing through, overthinking, carrying a lot, and being strong for everyone else, even when they are struggling. I help people work through anxiety, trauma, life transitions, perfectionism, and relationship stress in a way that feels safe, honest, and down-to-earth. I’m passionate about helping clients better understand themselves, get to the root of what’s going on, and make meaningful shifts so they can feel more at peace, more confident, and more like themselves again.
What should a new client know about working with you?
My approach is warm, honest, and tailored to who you are. I believe therapy should feel like a safe, supportive space where you can exhale, be yourself, and talk openly without feeling judged. I work collaboratively with my clients, which means we look at what is going on together, make sense of the patterns, and get to the root of what is keeping you stuck. I especially enjoy helping women who are used to holding it all together on the outside but feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally tired, or disconnected on the inside. My goal is to help you gain clarity, confidence, and a deeper understanding of yourself so you can make meaningful changes, feel more at peace, and show up in your life in a way that feels healthier and more true to who you are.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
In the first session, we will spend time getting to know each other and talking through what brought you in. It is a supportive, judgment-free space where you do not have to force anything or share more than you are ready to. We will talk about what has been going on, what you need, and what you would like help with, while also going over what to expect from therapy moving forward. My hope is that you leave that first session feeling heard, more at ease, and hopeful about the work we can do together.
