Getting to know Mercedes Becker

Working with you on being the best version of yourself is the best job I have ever had. Therapy requires me to use my whole self: my intellect, emotion, and personality to do good work, and I hope to engage you in the process on all of these levels too. I am constantly blown away by the bravery and determination it takes to go against the taboo and actually talk about yourself, your pain, your shame, and dare to keep fighting for a better future, even when it feels far away. I am good at making vulnerability feel more comfortable, and I show up with my genuine personality when I meet with you. I am someone who loves doing a good job, and in the therapy space, I believe that means building a real human connection with you, as well as providing practical knowledge and strategies from my field that you find useful. I am a complex person, just like you. I am professional, but I am also quick to laugh. I have good boundaries and provide structure, but I am also good at showing that I care about you and how this experience impacts your life. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regis University and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Montana. My training includes an internship in counseling at Naropa Community Counseling, where I gained valuable hands-on experience that informs my approach today.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Sometimes, you feel so overwhelmed you wish someone else could step in and live life for you for a while. You're juggling too much and you're worried that if things don't change for you soon, you will hit a breaking point and everything will fall apart around you. The therapy I offer is specifically designed to "triage" the most disruptive issues for you by offering tools that will help you feel relief fast, and then focus on gentle, but highly effective, methods for processing past trauma so you experience growth that lasts.
