Getting to know Michael Baldus

At the core, I am a human confronting the challenges associated with living a purpose-driven life and striving to be better each day. I am a therapist with over five years of experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds and presenting concerns. Currently, I work during the day as a trauma therapist in a PHP/IOP program and have extensive experience supporting clients with severe mental illness. My goal is to challenge power dynamics to create a collaborative working relationship that fosters growth and exploration of the difficulties we face as humans. I aim to work within an individual's unique framework to help them develop more values-aligned behaviors, increase their sense of meaning, and actualize their autonomy to enhance their sense of purpose. I focus on the here and now—how beliefs about oneself and others create expectations and challenges that result in distress, and how those beliefs have been shaped by experience, society, family, and culture. I encourage clients to confront core beliefs and rebuild them in ways that are true to their values. I believe therapeutic rapport is crucial to the working relationship and strive to destigmatize mental health care by creating a warm and welcoming space to confront and process the challenges of daily living.
